“My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never die, and no one can steal them out of my hand.” ~John 10:27-28
I recently read a story here on LiveHim entitled, “A Heart That will Never Break Again” written by a friend of mine. As I was reading it, I began to revisit moments in my mind of earlier days with my own dad. He has also been gone just 30 years...
Memories of my Mom and Dad began to flow in my mind. It’s amazing how it brings them closer to me. It was as if they were both still living, as I recalled the day I stood in Mom and Daddy’s kitchen. I was styling my mom’s hair, while Daddy was stretched out on the sofa in the family room. My youngest sister, Becky, was sitting beside Daddy. I heard her ask a question I will never forget! “Daddy, have you ever asked Jesus into your heart to be your Lord and Savior?” He nodded his head, yes and said that he had a very long time ago. She gently responded saying, “Would you mind if I prayed with you to do just that again? I want the assurance of knowing that I will see you again in Heaven.”
Our Daddy had cancer that was rapidly taking over his mind and body. Becky knew that soon; he may not be lucid enough to understand or answer his confirmation of faith. She needed to hear it from his lips while she had the chance, and he was able to respond. He agreed!
As I stood there at my mom's side, holding her tightly, my eyes were fixed on Daddy as he repeated the words Becky led him in a Salvation Prayer. Tears streamed down the cheeks and faces of Mom and I.
My lifelong prayer for Daddy was not only being answered, but God allowed me to witness it so that I would always know I would see him again when his time on this earth was no more. The Lord gave me that assurance I had prayed so long and hard for! I am reminded of Colossians 3:15~ “Let the peace that Christ gives control your thinking, because you were all called together in one body to have peace. Always be thankful.”
Our eternal home awaits, and just like our Dads, God knows the exact moment He will take us there.
Praise God! We have nothing to fear and knowing that we will be reunited with our loved ones that have gone before us brings such comfort.... filled with a Blessed Assurance!
Don't just love Him. Live Him.Don't just LVE Him.LVE Him.
