My Testimony of Faith, Trust, and God's Grace
I was raised in a church from the age of ten where, over time, I experienced more control than Christ. As I grew older, I began asking myself, "Why do I believe what I believe? Is my faith truly in Jesus Christ, or have I simply followed what I was taught?" Scripture challenged me to examine my faith: "Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith." (2 Corinthians 13:5).
Soon afterward, my life unraveled. My marriage ended in divorce, I lost the support of the only church family I had ever known, and I found myself serving in the United States Air Force as a single father while deploying around the world. I felt abandoned, emotionally exhausted, and completely alone. Yet God reminded me, "I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee." (Hebrews 13:5).
Rather than turning away from God, I turned toward Him. I committed myself to reading His Word not to defend a denomination, but to know Jesus Christ personally. I prayed continually, remembering the command to "pray without ceasing" (1 Thessalonians 5:17), and trusted the Holy Spirit to guide me through Scripture.
One of God's greatest works in my heart was teaching me forgiveness. I learned to forgive myself, my former wife, and those who had hurt me. Jesus said, "If ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you." (Matthew 6:14). As bitterness faded, God's peace filled my life: "The peace of God... shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:7).
Over the years, my relationship with Christ became deeply personal. I realized my faith rests not in a church building, denomination, or pastor, but in Jesus Christ alone, who is "the head of the body, the church." (Colossians 1:18). I believe the church is vital for worship, fellowship, and service (Hebrews 10:25), but God's Word not human tradition is the final authority for my life (2 Timothy 3:16–17).
As I continued walking with Christ, I saw the Holy Spirit produce spiritual fruit in my life greater faith, wisdom, discernment, and a desire to encourage others. I learned that spiritual gifts are given by God to build up His church and glorify Christ, never ourselves (1 Corinthians 12:4).
Today, I live with a peace I never thought possible. I no longer allow fear, anxiety, or bitterness to control my life because I have learned to "cast all my care upon Him; for He cares for me." (1 Peter 5:7). I know I am saved "by grace... through faith... not of works" (Ephesians 2:8–9), yet true faith naturally produces a transformed life, for "faith without works is dead." (James 2:17).
Looking back, I see God's hand in every trial. Pain taught me dependence. Loneliness taught me prayer. Heartbreak taught me forgiveness. Above all, Jesus Christ taught me that He is sufficient. My desire is to love God, love others, live according to His Word, and share the hope that no matter how broken life becomes, Christ is still restoring lives. As Romans 8:28 declares, "All things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose."
To God alone be the glory.
Don't just love Him. Live Him.Don't just LVE Him.LVE Him.
