In the Book of Matthew 6:31-33 we read, “Don't worry and say 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will we wear?' The people who don't know God keep trying to get these things, and you Heavenly Father knows you need them. The thing you should want most is God's Kingdom and doing what God wants. Then all these other things you need will be given to you.”
I've heard many say, “If I had more money, I'd be able to give more to those in need.” Yet the Bible records the wealthy men waving their money around before placing it in the offering, while the widow who only had 2 pennies to her name, gladly gave all that she had. She was lifted up because her offering was from her heart while the others gave a small portion of their wealth with pride.
Many times the Lord blesses us with a good paying job, with plenty to meet our needs and plenty to give in offerings and to others in need. We have our health and work diligently. We are not rich, but we can still live comfortably not wasting anything. We work in our church, give to our community, and everything seems well until our situation is suddenly changed.
I had undergone 3 back surgeries, then a 4th that completely changed my life. Every nerve from my waist down was either severed or crushed, leaving me bed fast with no “earthly” hope of reversing my condition. Then my Dad suddenly passed away from a massive heart attack a few months later. Some of my closest friends who I had done many things to help in times of need, laughed said I was faking an injury. Yet one of my older neighbors remembered the times I'd helped him gather and stack hay bales in his barn decided to have his grandson help him cut, split, deliver and stack a truck load of fire wood at my home. It was such a caring labor of love.
My wife and I had 3 children, the youngest only 5 years old and Christmas was coming. Money was tight. I had prayed and believe the scripture in the Book of Matthew listed above. My electric bill arrived stating I owed nothing for the past 4 months....I wanted to make that mistake right or I'd end up with a large estimated bill to pay before the end of the year. When I called them, they stated that my electric meter had stopped working and they would come to replace it. I asked them if I'd be paying a bill that would be matching the amount of power I'd used the winter before? She asked me to hold, then came back stating, “My manager wanted me to thank you for being honest and said as far as the bill...Merry Christmas....you don't owe us anything!” The next day, my personal manager called to tell me I had 2 weeks and 3 days of vacation left. His manager said they will mail me a check for that amount! Then I received a letter in the mail stating I had unclaimed money and to respond. I thought it was probably a scam until my wife said, “this is a valid letter from the state.” I filled out the form and found I had forgotten to cash a paycheck 2 years before and that check was mailed to me this all happened within the same month! The Lord provided in ways that were nothing short of miracles!
I have seen wealthy people loose everything because of greed and risky investments that guaranteed a 200% return on their investment. But as the scripture says, “I have not seen the righteous forsaken nor their seed begging bread.” When we trust in the Lord, He does meet our needs in every situation. I have often thought of this time over 30 years ago and felt I needed to share it. Someone may be facing the same trial in their life right now. Put your full trust in the Lord, He will send blessings from Heaven in ways you never thought were possible! “Seek the Kingdom of God and all these things will be added unto you.”
Don't just love Him. Live Him.Don't just LVE Him.LVE Him.
