In Hebrews 13:1-2 we read, “Let Brotherly Love continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained Angels unaware..” I was so blessed to have a Godly grandmother who not only taught me scriptures but gave examples.
During the Great Depression, many would come to her door and ask for something to eat. She said she never turned one person away. Once she had a pot of beans and beef cooking and some homemade bread cooling when a ragged man came asking. She told him to set down on the porch and she'd bring him something to eat. When she handed him his meal and bread, he clasped her hand with both of his, humbly thanking her. When she returned several minutes later to see if he wanted more, he was gone! The plate, bowl, spoon and napkin were neatly stacked together and were as clean as if they had “never” been used!
She spoke of another hard time during the Great Depression Her husband was looking for work and she had nothing to cook for her children. She told them, in faith, to set the table, then sat down and thanked the Lord for what He'd provide. Moments after the prayer, a couple knocked on the door. They handed her a cured ham, a box of groceries, and a 20 pound bag of flour! The couple said, “The Lord told us to do this!” She said she had never seen them before and never saw them again even though she lived in a small town.
Recently, my wife rode along with me to my pain management appointment. A gentleman was asking her directions to an office in the building while she was shutting the lift gate to my SUV, when she accidentally bumped her head on the corner of it. When we arrived on the 2nd floor, I noticed blood running down the side of her face. I only had a few minutes to check in for my appointment, so she said she'd put a cold compress on it. I was praying for her during my appointment, thinking I'd have to take her to Urgent Care afterward. She said while she was in the restroom, a nurse came in and saw her rinsing the blood out of her hair. The nurse said she'd go get some gloves and check her out. After the nurse had stopped the bleeding, Kay thanked her. The nurse replied, “God Bless you.” Kay said while leaving the restroom only a few seconds later, she saw the nurse open the glass door to the office down the hall but did not see her walk inside! God answered our prayers by an angel unaware!
The Lord chooses many ways to answer our prayers. Sometimes it is done in a visual way, sometimes through the Holy Spirit moving, and other times through prayer and meditation on the Word. My final thought is that in the past or in the near future many of you may have or will entertain Angels unaware! Thank you for “not neglecting to show hospitality to strangers...” May “brotherly Love Continue...”
Don't just love Him. Live Him.Don't just LVE Him.LVE Him.
