Remember the Sabbath Day

The biblical definition of Sabbath is The Hebrew word “Sabbath” (שַׁבָּת / shabbat) literally means: “To cease, to stop, to rest.” It is not just physical rest; it is ceasing from ordinary work to honor God. From the very beginning, God wove rest into the cyclic rhythm of creation. After six days of forming the heavens and the earth, He blessed the seventh day and made it holy, not because He was tired, but because He wanted His people to know the gift of stopping. The Sabbath reminds us that life is not sustained by our effort, but by His presence. It is God saying, “You can cease, because I am enough.” When we pause on the Sabbath, we step out of the noise and into the quiet where God speaks. It becomes a weekly reset, or a moment to breathe, to worship, to remember who we are and WHOSE we are. In a world that glorifies hustle, Sabbath becomes an act of trust. We lay down our striving and pick up His peace. We stop working for God long enough to simply be with God. And in Christ, the Sabbath becomes even more beautiful. He is our rest, our refuge, our restoration. When we honor the Sabbath, we aren’t just following a command, we’re entering a promise. A promise that God is near, that His grace is sufficient, and that His rest is still available for His people today. May your Sabbath be a doorway into His presence and a reminder that real rest is found in Him alone.
