Matthew 5:5, Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
The best definition I ever heard about meekness is "Strength under control" meekness is often thought of as weakness, but nothing could be farther from the truth. Meekness is not the absence of strength, but the wisdom to submit our strength to God's control. Jesus Himself demonstrated perfect meekness. He had the power to call down angels, silence His enemies, and avoid the cross, yet He chose obedience to the Father's will. True meekness is seen when we respond with patience instead of anger, humility instead of pride, and grace instead of retaliation. It takes far more strength to control our spirit than to give in to our emotions.
The world often rewards aggression, self-promotion, and the pursuit of power, but God's kingdom operates differently. The meek recognize that every blessing, ability, and opportunity comes from the Lord. They do not need to fight for recognition because their identity is secure in Christ. Their confidence is not in themselves but in God, trusting Him to defend, provide, and guide them through every circumstance.
Jesus promised that the meek "shall inherit the earth." This inheritance points both to God's present blessing and His future kingdom. Those who humbly follow Christ may not always appear successful by the world's standards, but they possess a deep peace that comes from surrendering to God. As believers, let us seek the kind of meekness that reflects the character of Jesus, allowing His strength to be displayed through our lives for His glory and the encouragement of others.
