Isaiah 40:31, But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary,
they shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah's example in this passage was a reference to how an eagle will "lock" it's wings in place during a storm in order to ride the wind up and over the raging currents of the storm. Sometimes we do not have the patience to wait and see what The Lord has in mind for us as we are trying to navigate the storms of life. We often want to get under shelter or raise the temporary shelter of an umbrella and try to navigate the storm in our own way rather than His. Too many times, in my experience, I end up with more fierce winds and rain when I do it my way.
"Whether or not eagles literally rise above every storm, Isaiah's point is that God can enable His people to rise above circumstances that would otherwise overwhelm them."
There are many passages that remind us to let Him do the "Heavy Lifting" in our lives and we would fare much better if we did! (Proverbs 3:5-6, Matthew 11:28-30, Psalm 37:23, and many more)
This has always been my favorite bible verse because while the word "wait" in Greek or Hebrew simply means to stay or remain. in English the word can also mean to "serve"
