We are Called to Witnessing

Matthew 28:16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” A disciple is defined as someone who follows a teacher. Biblically our teacher is Jesus Christ, and these verses call for us not only witness to others but to help them become disciples. (Followers of Jesus) This is sometimes a fearful thing to attempt because we feel there may be confrontation, or that we may not know enough scripture or that we think we have to MAKE them become Christians all in one conversation. The fact is we do not make anyone a disciple, but the Holy Spirit will draw them into it. Our job is to first plant the seed, or maybe to water the seed that someone else has already planted. Our first step to witnessing is through the way we live and react to situations that may arise. I must confess I often have to repent after a call to "customer service" when I don't get the help I am looking for. The next step to witnessing is to "open the door". That is usually the hardest step because we don't know what type of reaction we may get. Let me also preface this with every person can use whatever way works for them. Some start with "Where do you go to church?" or "Do you know Jesus as your personal Savior?" If that works for you keep doing what you're doing. I use an approach I stumbled onto in car sales. I would refer to a discount program and the say that it was our second-best discount program. You can guess what the next question was. I tell someone about the "second best decision I ever made". When they ask the question, my answer is "Following Jesus Christ". The door is open and now it is up to you and whatever the Holy Spirit leads you to say. So today is Witness Wednesday here on LIVEHIM. Go out and share the gospel and then come back here and share your victories. Have a blessed day!!!
